Description

NGC 1579 is a bright emission nebula located in the constellation of Perseus. It is also known as the "Northern Trifid" or the "Trifid of the North" because of its similarity to the Trifid Nebula (M20) in Sagittarius. NGC 1579 is notable for its complex structure, which includes a bright central region surrounded by a fainter, more diffuse outer region. The nebula is located at a distance of about 2,100 light-years from Earth and has an apparent magnitude of 9.0, making it visible with a telescope.
